01. UK population will be bigger than Germany in mid-century
UN world population projections show that Britain is expected to be the third largest recipient of foreign migrants in the world, after the US and Canada. The projections also show that the UK is projected to become the largest country in the European Union, overtaking Germany by mid-century. England has already overtaken Holland as the most crowded country in the EU and is also the fourth most crowded major country in the world.
The UN’s figures underscore the Office for National Statistics’ own projections on the impact that immigration will have on the UK’s population growth. This shows clearly that, by 2028, the UK’s population will hit 70 million. 70 per cent of the growth in population is due to immigration.
02. Immigration will account for 40% of all new households
New figures show that immigration now accounts for 39 per cent of household formation. If immigration continues at the current level, we will have to build one home every six minutes to house migrants. These new housing projections show in a clear and practical way the huge impact of the present extremely high levels of immigration on every aspect of our society. The changes the Government has made to their Points Based System will have only a very small effect on the numbers coming here. The Government must take serious steps to bring immigration into balance with emigration – otherwise our population will climb to 70 million and beyond. How much longer can the Government remain in denial, as one set of statistics after another reveal that its policies are woefully inadequate?
03. Australian Government pledges to reduce immigration
The Australian Government had decided to reduce immigration to Australia by 14 per cent in the face of the recession. We hope that the British Government will sit up, take note and act accordingly. Their so-called “toughening” of their Points Based System is only expected to reduce immigration by 5 or 6 per cent. Given that net immigration is running at 237,000 a year, this is a drop in the ocean compared to what needs to be done. Details of the Australian Government’s decision can be found here.

04. Public response to jobless immigrants - FT poll
The Financial Times published a poll on Monday 16 March which suggests that more than three quarters – 78 per cent – of British adults believe immigrants should be asked to leave the country if they do not have a job. By contrast, immigrants are still allowed to come to Britain without a job under Tier One of the new, supposedly tough, Points Based System. The FT/Harris survey also showed that a majority also oppose the right for other EU citizens to work here. Phil Woolas, the immigration minister is reported as having said "The poll figures are not a surprise, they are a concern, and in significant part they are because the public don't believe that the government has got control". Please see the full report in the Financial Times.
